Glossary - 60+ digital marketing terms & acronyms index

Do you sometimes feel lost when reading articles, listening to webinars, or browsing online posts about social media, marketing, SEO, etc because they are peppered with acronyms? I've collated a list, much like a glossary, of such mysteries. I'll keep adding to it as I think of more. Let me know if you have any to add!

  • AIDA (or AIDCA): Attention/Awareness, Interest, Desire, (Conviction), Action (4/5 steps of the purchase funnel.)

  • AOV: Average order value

  • API: Application programming interface

  • B2B: Business to business

  • B2C: Business to consumer

  • Bounce rate: for websites, a high bounce rate means no clicks or navigation, for email it indicates non-delivery.

  • CMS: Content management system, a user friendly application.

  • CPA: Cost per action, e.g. when an advertiser pays per impression or click.

  • CPC: Cost per click

  • CPE: Cost per engagement

  • CPL: Cost per lead

  • CPM: Cost per thousand

  • CPV: Cost per view

  • CR: Conversion rate

  • CSS: Cascading style sheets

  • CTA: Call to action

  • CTR: Click-through rate

  • CX: Customer experience

  • DM: Direct message

  • DNS: Domain name system

  • EPC: Earnings per click

  • FB: Facebook

  • GA: Google Analytics

  • HTML: Hyper-Text Markup Language

  • IP: Internet protocol address

  • ISP: Internet service provider

  • KISS: Keep it simple stupid

  • KPI: Key performance indicator

  • LTV: Lifetime value

  • MoM: Month-over-month

  • MLM: Multi level marketing

  • OS: Operating system or open source

  • POS: Point of sale

  • PPC: Pay per click

  • PPV: Pay per view

  • PR: Page rank

  • PV: Page views
